Feted by Republicans

After reading the story in the Hernando Today titled "Democrat Rocco to be feted by Republicans" it sounds like the Hernando County Republican Executive Committee members are scratching their heads for answers.
It sure looks like local business leaders and citizens in Hernando County are interested in individuals, not party ideology, for representation that will make our county a better place to live in the future. Economic growth and the betterment of the community can only be done with a positive message. This can-do attitude can be seen in Commissioner Rose Rocco's performance.
Good luck, Rose, on your fundraiser tonight. You deserve another 4 years as our commissioner for doing what's right for all the people in this county!

Are you serious?? Is it right that Rosie is not willing to even entertain the idea of a pay decrease for herself, while the rank and file are being faced with furloughs AND a pay cut. What about the taxpayers, when County employees are furloughed, how will the taxpayers like the decrease in service? Rose isn't willing to give an inch, not if it effects her personally. Can't wait till she is gone!

I suggest you lobby the state legislature if you want a reduction in the commissioner's salary since they set the regulations, according to population.

Yes, I know the 4 Republicans on the commission pledged to the REC that they would take a pay cut, of sorts, to donate money to their favorite charity.

If the REC really wanted to accomplish something, they would forget about their meaningless resolutions, and start twisting the arms of Republicans in the legislature to start real reform of our state tax system.

FYI-Rocco attends functions in this county 7 days a week, unlike the other 4 commissioners that aren't seen, or heard from, except at the regularly scheduled BCC meetings. Any costs associated with these functions comes directly out of her pocket.

It is the thought that counts, as they say. Is a simple gesture to to make a donation of a percentage of her salary (be in to the "General Fund" or to a charity)too much for dear Rosie to give? How would she ever make it on the salary of a 7 yr rank and file county employee? A show of solidarity, a little 'it must be hard to raise a family on $30,000' empathy might be nice.

I am well aware of Rosie's claims of attending functions on a constant basis- but sorry, I'm not buying it. On that note, I have volunteered at several County events and have been told to absolutely "refuse money from the BOCC" they attend free of charge! I would also love to know what events she attends, if she expects credit for attending, she allegedly represents the residents of Hernando County- I'd like to know at what events she is representing us at. Even I can't find something do to EVERY night in this County. The claim might be worth something of value if she wasn't receiving special treatment as a commissioner.

Anon. 2 post above was edited due to extreme length.

BTW: No one has seen the canceled checks of the other 4 commissioner's donation of their salary; only empty gestures to make headlines in the Hernando Today for the REC...

You're barking up the wrong tree if you're trying to discredit Rocco for her participation in community events at her own expense.

How nice of you to censor my comments regarding Rocco's "community events" at her own expense. So, I'll say it again- short and sweet. I have volunteered at several county events and was instructed to absolutely "refuse money from the BOCC" thay attend free of charge. Rosie's attend events to keep her face and name in the public, she gets special treatment as a commissioner. Does she add the milage to her expense account too? Rosie represents US -the residents of Hernando County- so what event did she attend last night? Is she planning to help hand out bookbags at Jerome Brown Park today, to 'give back' to her community? Maybe she will, after all the press usually stops by.

If you're goning to censor comments, perhaps you should add a disclaimer on your page that reads "Your comments will not be published if your thoughts and views to not mirror mine"

This is much better; at least you didn't write a book this time...

Rocco attends events from the Sub to the beach, as an invited guest to many of the events.

In fact, the other commissioners usually have her go to the events to read proclamations because they can't be bothered with the details of meeting with the public.

When you say "the Sub" are you referring to the area known as South Brooksville? If so, why the use of the derogatory term?

Rose is Real.

Lisa-It is apparent with your uppity attitude that you have never set foot in the Sub to network with any of the folks in the local community.

Jaz, you & I don't agree on much but yes, Rose is as real as they get...

alc, you assume way too much. I just happen to dislike terms that signify a separation of race/economics/class. The sub is a perfect example.

I have no need to network, only those with an agenda feel the need to network. The folks I know (and visit with) in South Brooksville are my FRIENDS, not a network.

If you weren't aware, the term Sub is rich with history for the proud people that live in this area.

If I felt it was necessary to separate people by race, economics or class I certainly wouldn't have located my business in the neighborhood.

Like I said, your uppity attitude is enough to turn off the faintest of hearts, for you know not what you speak!
