The winner of the State of Florida Dependency Summit Art Contest was won by Malcolm Dumaine. This contest is exclusively for children in foster care throughout the state. Malcolm is 14 years old, sight challenged, and is the foster son of David Bearden. David is the president of the area National Federation of the Blind chapter for Hernando and Pasco counties.
Malcolm was at quite a disadvantage going into the contest because he had limited, available art supplies at his disposal. He used watered-down acyclic paints and computer paper for his mixed media art presentation. In fact, the process he used to paint caused it to wrinkle the computer paper. Malcolm used a household iron to smooth out the wrinkles before placing it in a jacket to mail in to the contest. How's that for ingenuity?
Congratulations, Malcolm!
