Louisiana's Senator David Vitter and U.S. Representative Charles Boustany have each introduced legislation (S. 1488 and H.R. 3436, respectively) that would require the President of the United States to certify to Congress each year that the U.N. has taken no action to "restrict, attempt to restrict, or otherwise adversely infringe upon the rights of individuals in the United States to possess a firearm or ammunition." Should the president be unable to provide that certification, the legislation would allow for the refusal to submit any funding to the U.N. for that fiscal year.

Interesting legislation
As a member of Safari Club International, I receive weekly newsletters via email. Even though SCI, Inc. is a hunting organization, it is also very active in conservation and environmental issues along with the concerns of gun owners worldwide. I received the following information by email this afternoon that I thought you might like to read:

When has this issue been proposed by the U.N.? Could this be an attempt to appeal to the 'base'?
For years I bought into the U.N. bashing that has been a predominate issue of late. Is there corruption? Well, yea, but our government cannot cast the first stones in light of the billions lost in Iraq, and Katrina. Should we "drown our government in a bathtub" as Grover Norquist suggests, or work on building a stronger institution. We are (as one of the seven member Security Council, and largest contributor), by far the best capable of making a difference.
When you also take into account from from whose agenda this anti-U.N. message originates, it can also help give a little better perspective. The neo-cons (Richard Perle, Paul Wolfowitz, Douglas Feith, John Bolton, etc.) have made this issue a part of their on-going campaign for a unilateral and hegemonic U.S. global dominance.
If you will take notice, I took this information from a newsletter I recieve from Safari Club International, Inc. which promotes environmental protection, wildlife protection, worldwide hunting, and the protection of gun ownership in the USA, and worldwide. SCI is not an organization that promotes, or endorses, UN bashing. It is certainly your prerogative to lash out at me, (or SCI) but it also my choice not to agree with you on the merits of this prestigious organization named SCI, Inc.
Was not lashing out at you SCI, only trying to give a broader view of the behind the scenes type of thinking that can influence public opinion.
